Meet Dr. Josie Olsen
Dr. Josie Olsen, D.O.
I started my medical journey in college when I discovered my love for anatomy and biochemistry. I first worked in a research lab, and while my work was published, I desired a job with more social interaction. I attended medical school in the Pacific Northwest where my Osteopathic training emphasized a holistic approach to patient care, the interconnection of the body's systems, and Osteopathic Manipulation Techniques (OMT) .
After graduation, I commissioned into the US Air Force and completed my Family Practice Residency, with a secondary in Pain Management, in Ft. Walton Beach, FL at Eglin Air Force Base. My training encompassed everything from the birth to terminal care. I rotated through over 15 clinical specialties including internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, psychiatry, cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology, urology, orthopedics, ENT, gastroenterology, podiatry, dermatology, and general surgery. I was required to physically perform the procedures that some of my civilian counterparts only got to observe. This included ENT scopes, colonoscopies, vasectomies, cardiac stress tests, C-sections, and vaginal deliveries. My residency program was recognized as the #1 Family Medicine Residency in the USA (among civilian and military) all three years of my training.
While I have limited my practice to select procedures, my broad training has allowed me to provide more in depth workups for specialist referrals, as well as targeted after-care support.
During my military service, I not only enjoyed primary care but was also promoted into a Flight medicine occupational health role, eventually taking over as the Clinical Medical Director. I was recognized as #1 among my physician peers and held the highest patient satisfaction rating at two different assignments.
After completing my military service, I moved to Osprey and worked with a company that provided home visits to residents in an Assisted Living Environment. I became proficient with providing mobile clinic services and procedures. I then built the policies and procedures for a multi-specialty clinic. These experiences have uniquely prepared me to start my own practice with confidence in my ability to provide superior medical care.
I feel fortunate to have found the profession that makes me feel I am living the adage “Do something you love and you will never work a day in your life.” I am passionate about medicine and staying up to date with the latest literature. I am frustrated with the ever increasing administrative burden standing between me and my patients. I am encouraged by the promise of Direct to Primary Care and think it is the answer to the current state of poor outcomes and out of control medical costs.
Let’s set up a complimentary meet and greet to discuss how we can work together to achieve your health care goals.
